3 D X-Ray :

3 D x rays are the latest technological improvement for diagnosing dental conditions that are in the initial stages of disease.  We use them for diagnosing fractured teeth, root resorption, abscesses, etc. as standard two dimensional x rays do not show these conditions until after they progress.  3 D x rays are very useful for evaluating and treating infected teeth with root canal therapy.

3D x rays are also the newest technological advancement for the planning and placement of dental implants.  They allow the dentist to see the three dimensional shape and volume of bone present so that the proper size implant can be placed.  Often a custom surgical guide is made using the 3 D x ray and a digital model of the mouth so that the implant or implants can be placed with incredible accuracy.  This increases safety by allowing enough clearance between the implants and any nerves present in the jaw and it also increases the long term success of the implant being placed.  It is used for both single tooth replacement or for teeth express (see implant stabilized denture or teeth in a day).   The three dimensional images increase the efficiency of the surgical portion of implant placement which also leads to less discomfort following implant placement.  For all of these reasons Cold Spring Family Dentistry is pleased to announce that we have this new technology available so that we can provide the best care possible to our patients.
